From homeowners, apartment and condo dwellers to chefs for top restaurants in Las Vegas…my goal is to help you put healthy, organic, garden fresh (aka farm fresh) ingredients into the meals you cook in your kitchen. That, my friend, is called “Farm to Table Living”.
When you grow food anywhere, that little growing space is called a farm. When you grow flowers, you are a gardener. If you grow food, you’re a farmer. If that farming space is located in a city — you are now an urban farmer. My urban farming lifestyle has become Farmer Jen Organics.
As my father, Jim Gammons, always reminds me when it comes to business, family and life, “Keep it simple”. Here is my simple mission — to help you put healthy and organic farm fresh ingredients into the meals you cook in your kitchen.
Happy Farming and most of all, happy eating!
Imagine moving from prior homes in Ohio and Georgia, beautiful small towns on the edge of rural green farm land, to a home in Vegas. Looking out my window at a brick wall and my view is a tiny 25 feet by 50 feet empty, barren dirt yard. Can you imagine that for a moment? From the rolling farmlands of Ohio and Georgia to an empty dirt yard surrounded by brick walls with houses bordering us on all sides.
All I wanted was to grow some carrots and tomatoes, so my baby girls could see how seeds grow into food. Then we could eat something delicious and fresh from the garden. Best of all, my husband loves to cook! So, we built two raised garden beds in that empty yard, along with 2 fruit trees, 2 almond trees, native shrubs and a rose garden.
I was determined to make my yard an oasis. I took every desert gardening class I could find. I sought out the most experienced master gardeners and experts to learn about desert gardening — Linn Mills, Leslie Doyle, Peter Duncombe, Cindy Dixon and Bob Morris. After a year I had learned a valuable skill. I could grow food in the Vegas Valley desert!
A natural born teacher, I started having gardening classes at my home to show all my friends how I was growing delicious fruits, vegetables, herbs and almonds from my back yard. They wanted to know how I grew all these yummy herbs I was bringing them. Today one of my greatest loves is to help people in urban homes get a little taste of what it’s like to grow and eat food fresh from a farm. I teach folks how to grow their own food. Simple as that. All organic, highly nutritious and delicious organic food.
